[ Holding eye contact for far longer than he means to, Peter keeps searching for something to say and finding that it's too much work to say any of it. When his chest starts to go tight, he knows he has to look somewhere else, before Adam somehow reads into him too much. ]

[ If Peter could give Adam back his perfect dream and make a break for it, he probably would've done it ages ago. Not that he's waking up to anything particularly pleasant. But somehow Adam's apology -- after a few seconds of clenching his jaw to get through the rush of emotions too numerous to recount -- gets to him. He doesn't exactly smile, but his expression softens. ] I believe you.

[ It's one thing to believe him, but it's another thing entirely to take his hand. Peter stares at it for a moment, waiting for his mind to process the information -- all of it, Adam's apology included. But after a moment, he reminds himself that it's not his mind that he needs to accept it, and he finally slips his fingers around Adam's, managing a smile. ] Guess not.
